As a Squarespace web designer I see a lot of misinformation online about Squarespace.
While the platform isn’t perfect (what is?) it's pretty close.
In this article I’m going to bust some of the most common Squarespace myths so that you can make an informed decision about which website building platform is the right one for you.

Myth One: All Squarespace Websites Look the Same
There is SO much variety in how a Squarespace website can look but people still think Squarespace websites are confined to certain design styles.
This stems from the days when Squarespace used to only offer certain templates and features to users. Now users all start from the same template and have access to every feature on offer, allowing you to fully customize your website.
You only need to take a look at the by Crawford portfolio to see the vast array of designs that can be created on Squarespace.
Myth Two: Squarespace Sucks for SEO
Admittedly Squarespace used to be a little poor when it came to SEO. Not anymore.
They’ve totally revamped how they do things, not to mention there is one of the best SEO plugins on the market available just for Squarespace websites, SEOSpace.
SEOSpace is a plugin available on the official Squarespace extension marketplace and once installed will scan your whole website and provide recommendations on how to improve your website SEO.
Myth Three: Squarespace Sucks for Ecommerce
While Shopify may reign supreme for ecommerce websites, in the past year Squarespace have had a massive push on ecommerce.
Squarespace is now a contender for smaller ecommerce websites who have a smaller inventory and turnover.
Myth Four: Squarespace Can’t be Customized with Code
The idea that you can’t use custom code on Squarespace is simply not true.
In fact, you can design and customize practically anything you want on Squarespace using CSS.
The great thing about Squarespace’s approach to code however is that even with code customizations on your website, you can still use the drag and drop editor as normal, ensuring that Squarespace remains as user friendly as possible.

Myth Five: Squarespace Doesn’t Integrate With Anything
I’ve no idea why this is a common misconception because actually, Squarespace can integrate with anything.
From Calendly and Cal.com to Hubspot and Google Analytics, anything can be integrated into your Squarespace website.
There are various different ways to set up integrations including using embed blocks, but if you want to integrate a third-party software into your website then you absolutely can.
Myth Six: You Can’t Scale a Squarespace Website
No matter how big or small your business is now, and no matter how big you want it to be in the future, Squarespace can support you.
The idea that your website can’t be scaled on Squarespace is bizarre. There is next to no limit on page numbers and website visitors and you can keep iterating and adding to your website long after you’ve set it live.
Myth Seven: You Don’t Own Your Website
Yes Squarespace is a private company but you still own your website and its contents and domain.
WordPress developers love to claim that you can only own your website if its on WordPress and as we’ve seen when the platform recently shut down various sites, that’s simply not true.
Using any website platform comes with a tiny percentage of risk that one day they might shut down your site, but this is highly unlikely. You’re more likely to win the lottery or get struck by lightning.
And there we have it, seven common Squarespace myths busted. Hopefully this has helped you to see why Squarespace is the perfect platform for building your website and will allow you to make an informed decision.
