How to Add “www” in Prefix on Squarespace

Let’s be honest, this might be one of the most unexpectedly niche tutorials about Squarespace. But as someone who’s made plenty of Squarespace websites, I’m here to tell you: sometimes the smallest settings matter the most to your clients.

So here’s the deal: recently, two separate clients asked me the exact same question in one week: “How do I make my Squarespace website show up with ‘www.’ at the beginning of my URL?”

It might feel like a blast from the past (remember when every website started with www?), but hey, if your client wants it, your client gets it.

And if you want to show your domain as www.yoursite.com instead of just yoursite.com, here’s how to do it. Spoiler: it’s ridiculously easy.

Why Add the “www” Prefix?

Before we dive in, let’s quickly cover why you might want to toggle on the www prefix:

  • Brand consistency: Some businesses prefer the classic look of www.yoursite.com.

  • Customer expectations: Believe it or not, some users still type “www” out of habit.

  • Technical redirects: It can help avoid potential redirect confusion in certain setups.

Now let’s get into the steps…

How to Add the “www” Prefix to Your Squarespace Domain

Follow these steps to activate the www. prefix for your Squarespace site:

  1. Log in to your Squarespace account and open your website dashboard.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click on Settings.

  3. Navigate to Domains and then Email & Domain Settings.

  4. Scroll down to Other Settings.

  5. Find the option labeled “Use www prefix” - toggle it ON.

Your website will now display the www. version of your domain when visitors type it in or when you share it.
