Step 1: Create a Lead Magnet Page with a Newsletter Block

Start by building the page where users will sign up for your lead magnet.

1. Go to Pages in your Squarespace dashboard.

2. Either create a new page or duplicate an existing lead magnet page for efficiency.

3. On the new page, add a Newsletter Block.

4. Customize the block:

• Add a title like “Get Your Free Template” if desired.

• Assign a name to the block (e.g. “Example Form”) so you know which form subscribers are using.

• Enable the Name field so you can personalize future emails.

This page will serve as your lead capture form.

Step 2: Connect the Newsletter Block to a Mailing List

The most important part of this setup is connecting the newsletter block to a specific Squarespace mailing list - this is what allows automations to work correctly.

1. In the newsletter block settings, go to the Storage tab.

2. Choose Squarespace as your storage option.

3. Under Mailing List, select the appropriate list (or create a new one, such as “Example Lead Magnet”).

If you skip this step, signups will go to the general “Subscribers” list and you won’t be able to trigger specific automations.

Step 3: Create an Automation to Deliver the Lead Magnet

1. Navigate to Marketing > Automations in your Squarespace dashboard.

2. Click Add Automation.

3. For the trigger, select Subscriber signs up for [Your Mailing List].

5. Customize the email:

• Add a message and include a button or link to your lead magnet.

How to Link to a PDF or Downloadable File

If your lead magnet is a downloadable PDF:

1. Add a temporary text block on any page.

2. Type a placeholder word like “Download” and highlight it.

3. Click Link > File, then upload your PDF.

4. Copy the generated file URL.

5. Use this link in your automation email’s button or text.
